Stop The Hate

What kind of world do we live in these days?

A black female professor at Columbia University’s Teachers College discovered a hangman’s noose on her office door today, according to WNBC, a local television station in New York. A Teachers College official issued a statement saying the incident was being investigated by the New York Police Department’s Hate Crimes unit.

The report is the latest in a string of noose incidents on campuses. In September police officers at the University of Maryland at College Park investigated reports of a noose hanging in a tree near a building that houses several black campus groups. And earlier this month the head of the U.S. Coast Guard spoke to cadets at the Coast Guard Academy about two nooses discovered there during the summer. —Scott Smallwood

I am having a difficult time coping with the idea that in this day and age we are still dealing with such bigotry. How can people still believe that this behavior is acceptable? What is the point of doing such a horrible thing? Do they think it will make all blacks jump on a ship and sail "back" to Africa? Blacks are an important part of America, contributing to research, education, culture, etc. It is simply unacceptable for these things to happen. I hope the perpetrators are brought to light and quickly punished.
