Taking the Short Cut

Have you ever started a project and set out to do it from scratch, because you can see it perfectly in your head?

I'm creating a database of information for the grants I'll be managing, and I spent several hours yesterday constructing what I thought was a sound relational database. When I came in this morning, I realized how badly I'd put things together.

Granted, MS Access is not the easiest program to get along with.

And yet, today, I started again, and for a change, instead of working in Design View and setting it all up myself, I've let the setup "Wizards" walk me through my creation process.

And it's much easier.

The lesson learned here is that it's better to ask for help, even if it's just a computer tutorial. I'm already ahead of where I thought I was last night, and best of all, I didn't have to re-invent the wheel to get there.
